Wow what a fantastic ride this past weekend as 17or so wily peddlers rode from Leduc to Hastings Lake 61 km in 150 min ( moving time).
With the wind mostly at our backs we felt like we were flying! The weather may have been on the cool side, but our hearts were warm with enthusiasm and elation as that 25 km wind eased our flight. When we got to Judy & Georges we got settled and refreshed while a few were huddled in the Garstads 5th wheel sipping some concoction called a MO HEE TA?!! Of course we had a great Barbeque with all the fixings’. We rides then we eats! After Supper we huddled around the campfire telling stories, playing a game called “Things” and enjoyed a great campfire until 11pm.
Then Sunday morning we got going around 8:45 and rode a near 25 km loop to Footloose Caboose for a great breakfast. The first 4.5 km was a good lung cleaner up a nice grade. Then it was rolling tarmac to the caboose. the ride back seemed a lot quicker. I like rolling along with the wind at my back or with gravity drawing us to wards our destination! 😉 The whole ride was scenic vistas of very nice ripening grain fields, tree lined roads, horses, ponies, cows and even mysterious piles of bear/crow/coyote ???
It was great to have a good turn out after a busy summer!
Remember to come out this Wednesday for another great ride!
CBC did a great documentary on cycling lately. Click here to view: http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Shows/Doc_Zone/2009-10/ID=1275907713
Plus We had a great Ride on Wednesday nite. The weather was perfect!
It was so good that I went and redid the route after everyone went home. I did over 45 km and got back to my shop (where Alice was working late) around 10:15. Cycling with adequate lights and a warm evening is a totally different ride – I had a blast! Plus after the ride I discovered that I had finally passed the 10,000 km mark riding for CKAP! YAHOO!
Lots of riding yet to do this fall, I love fall riding, the colors, invigorating clear fresh air! Come on out Wednesdays; invest in some good riding lights – you won’t regret it and it opens lots more riding adventures.
Just a final note for the Hastings Lake riders.
Looks like a good tailwind for our ride. If raining or too cold we will send out an email by 10am tomorrow morning.
Supper Supplied (5.00PP)
Bring cash for Sat Lunch and Sunday Breakfast
Lawn chair for relaxing in (smallish of going in Sag Van)
Get ready for a great time!
Good Morning Godspokers!
We are off on our regular Wednesday ride this week, 6:45 at the Alliance Church. See you there!
Also we have a special ride this weekend. We are off to Hastings Lake (65km) Saturday Morning. We are meeting at Crackmasters (Larry’s shop) at 11am with plans to leave at 11:30. We will stop for an early lunch at A&W in Beaumont, and then on to the Reynars cabin at Hastings lake where we will enjoy a BBQ dinner ($5.00pp) and social time. There is plenty of time to camp and of the 14 riders currently confirmed most are staying over. If you want to return home Saturday night a ride can/will be organized. Sunday morning has us riding to the Footloose caboose for breakfast (11km) followed by a touring ride back to the Cabin (20km). You will need money for Saturday lunch and Sunday Breakfast ($20 should be lots). Let me know if you want to join in on the ride and pray for good weather to bless us.
It’s been over a year since we talked. I signed on to your guys blog when you went to Thailand and I have been enjoying the continued updates and invites since. Marvin continually talks to me about you guys. So between that and the blogs your group is never really far away. I am now in the middle of raising funds for the non-profit Christian organization Young Life. See my webpage to read more about it. It really is an excellent organization. I’m signed up for the epic Iron Bike. 230km and two mountain passes in a single day. You’re blog just came up and I thought well, at least I’ll forward the info because you guys are into biking.
I’ve got no expectations but have a look I’m sure you’ll find it intriguing.

George & Judy Reynar have graciously offered to host out group at their Hasting Lake cabin next Saturday August 28th.
Our Ride is tentatively set to leave the Alliance church at noon and we will ride approx 65kms out there followed by a supper of Burgers, Beans, Salad and dessert($5.00PP). You have the option of staying overnight as long as we bring our own RV/Tent, or we may be able to organize transport back to Leduc in the evening depending on demand. Those staying over will enjoy breakfast at a cool railroad caboose diner 11km from the Cabin followed the the choice of riding back to Leduc or again we can organize transport.
In order to determine what the final transport needs will be we need your feedback. Please Call or email me with your intention to join in the ride, whether you want to stay over or not, and whether you want to ride back or have transport back. Also we need to know who might want to Drive Transport vehicles to return the riders to Leduc.
